#RealTalk: I am not a full time wedding photographer anymore, but I am still able to make my clients happy and create beautiful images. My full time day job allows me to invest my extra income into gear, gifts for clients, and props to make for gorgeous photos. #Truth: I used to be a full time wedding photographer. I decided that I need to be around people in order to feel fulfilled and happy. There are many myths that come with the territory of hiring a wedding photographer, and I am here to bust them :)
MYTH: You need to hire a full time photographer
TRUTH: If your photographer has the experience necessary to know where to be on your wedding day, and knows how to work with lighting principles and editing, no need for them to be full time! I can speak from experience that I need to be around people during the week to feel fulfilled. Working a full time job has enabled me to buy top of the line gear, and surprise my couples with gifts from their inquiry date to their anniversaries down the road!
MYTH: Your photographer needs to do extensive editing
TRUTH: Your photographer should be getting photos right straight out of camera. Things like exposure, color correction, and film filters can be added later to give your photos that wow factor. I personally would much rather work with someone who masters their craft in the moment than have someone “fix” a photo later in photoshop.
MYTH: Photographers are overpriced for what they provide
TRUTH: Photographers not only invest in their gear, but need to pay themselves too! I personally reinvest a large portion of my income back into my business to provide the best quality possible for future clients. Education, gear, client gifts, repairs, and website hosting services (including cloud storage for galleries) are super expensive. Your photos look more high end with each dollar you invest due to the quality of our work increasing through the back end!
MYTH: My wedding needs to cost 1,000,000.00 to look high end
TRUTH: Your photographer can make even a 1,000.00 wedding look like a million dollar wedding. Book based if you jive with your photographer’s personality, understanding of light, and consistency of imagery to ensure the most bang for your buck!
